Pair charged with leaving 4-year-old in car outside North Stonington adult store

North Stonington — Two women from Utica, N.Y., were charged Saturday with leaving a 4-year boy in a car alone while they purchased items inside the Amazing Intimate Essentials adult store on Route 2.

Monae J. Blake, 28, and Victoria L. Mortensen, 25, were each charged with leaving a child unsupervised in a place of public accommodation or motor vehicle. Blake was released on a $5,000 bond and Mortensen on a $7,500 bond. Both are slated to appear in New London Superior Court on May 11.

According to a state police report, a trooper was dispatched to the store at 10 p.m. after receiving a report of a child left alone in a car. Police said they found the boy inside the car while Mortensen and Blake were inside for about 15 minutes purchasing items. Police, who notified the state Department of Children and Families, did not describe the women's connection to the boy.
