New York — Mets ace Matt Harvey has a mild left ankle sprain but the team says he will make his next scheduled start Saturday at Yankee Stadium.

Harvey left the clubhouse Wednesday afternoon to have his foot examined by a doctor. He said he tweaked the ankle in spring training when he ran into the wall while shagging flies.

"At the time I didn't really think anything of it," he said. "I thought it would get better."

But he said "the natural workload" has made it "a little more sore."

"I think there's some fluid in there," Harvey said. "We're still good to go for Saturday and I just kind of wanted to know why I wasn't getting better and what was going on."

New York manager Terry Collins said he didn't even know about Harvey's ankle issue until a couple of days ago when the right-hander asked to have it looked at. Collins said he gave Harvey the option of skipping his turn if he wanted, but Harvey declined with an unmistakable look.

"I don't think it's kept him from pitching well. I think he'll be fine," Collins said Wednesday night after his team beat the Atlanta Braves 3-2 for its 10th straight victory.

Harvey said he will throw Thursday with the ankle taped up.

"As of now it's not going to affect me pitching-wise," he said.

Harvey is 3-0 with a 3.50 ERA in three starts since returning from Tommy John surgery that sidelined him last season. He gave up a season-high four runs and eight hits Sunday in a win over Miami, saying afterward he felt ill and got tired.

In other news, the Mets said backup catcher Anthony Recker has a bone spur in the back of his right elbow but is able to play. The spur might be removed after the season.

In a move that was likely related, New York acquired minor league catcher Dan Rohlfing from the Minnesota Twins for cash. Rohlfing will report to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Starting catcher Travis d'Arnaud is expected to miss at least a month after breaking his right pinkie when he was hit by a pitch Sunday. New York called up highly regarded prospect Kevin Plawecki from Las Vegas to fill in.

Plawecki went 0 for 3 with a walk in his second major league game Wednesday.
