Dr. I prescribes decaf for fans of UConn men

Idle Thoughts, while waiting for pitchers and catchers, infielders and outfielders, Sterling and Waldman:

    • Dr. Idle, Dr. I to his close friends, awakened Friday to discover that Kevin Ollie is suddenly an idiot.

    No, really.

This from those UConn "fans" who are with you whether you win or whether you win.

Now Dr. I gets plenty annoyed at the way Ollie seems somewhere between inconvenienced and disdainful after a decent question from the media.

But then, who cares? He won 20 games with a team home for the postseason because of NCAA sanctions and then a national championship.

Now comes a few hiccups with two months left in the season and he's a dope with a team headed to the NIT.

What, the guy doesn't deserve our trust?

    Decaf, people.

    The green can.

    • Synthetic marijuana for Chandler Jones?

    No biggie.

And really, when compared to other transgressions from that organization — the cheating coach, felonious tight end — what's a little doobie on a Sunday night?

    • Can we get George Hall into the Fitch Hall of Fame please?

Don't make Dr. I ask again.

    • While we're at Fitch:

You really ought to see this kid Eddie Volkerts play basketball.

    Great theater.

And a shout out, too, to Landon Peabody at Waterford, who got 40 the other night.

    • Dr. I must have read a misprint the other day.

    Griswold beat NFA in basketball?

And here Dr. I has been lectured repeatedly on how those small schools just can't compete.

    • Could Paul Ryan have applauded once for Obama the other night?

Dr. I knows Mr. Ryan and his ilk must stick to their script, but come on.

    • Dr. I nearly needed grief counseling at the thought the Yard Goats having to play their first, what, 72 games on the road.

    How will we cope?

    • How come no kicker ever misses a 27-yarder at the end against the Giants?

    • Commissioner Goodell needs to explain how Tommy Tuck Rule (Walt Coleman) continues to get assigned NFL playoff games.

    • If Mae West married former basketball coach Clair Bee, divorced him for former Yankees left-hander Rudy May, divorced him to re-marry Bee and then settled on former Montville High baseball player Chris Nott, that would make her Mae Bee May Bee Nott.

    (Heh, heh, heh).

    • Good luck to Marcus Outlow at Coastal Carolina.

    • Prediction: former New London High great Jevon Elmore will be invited to an NFL camp before he leaves Central Connecticut.

Then who knows? He might become New London's fourth athlete in major professional sports with Jordan Reed, Rajai Davis and Kris Dunn.

    • Just so Dr. I has this right: Notre Dame's excuse for getting clobbered in the bowl game was injuries?

Glad no other team has them.

    • Two softball jobs open now in the region: Fitch and Waterford, who have combined for five state titles in the last seven years.

    Get your resumes in.

    • If you haven't read Vickie Fulkerson's piece on Caitlyn Dittman of St. Bernard yet, stop reading this and start reading that.

    • Congrats to Dr. I guy Sam Cheung, who won his first game coaching girls' basketball at Montville High the other night.

    • Dr. I must admit he is looking forward to Aroldis Chapman vs. David Ortiz in the bottom of the ninth.
