A thing or not a thing? Dr. I wants to know

Idle Thoughts, while waiting for Thanksgiving football, contemplating a loss to Wagner and for Katie Lou to shoot the ball more, not less:

    • Dr. Idle, Dr. I to his close friends, would like to know when becoming "a thing" became a thing. Is it really a thing now to be a thing?

Hence, this is today's theme. Is it a thing or not?

    • BC-UConn football this weekend. Not a thing. It should be a thing. But it's not. Dr. I is thinking scoreless tie.

    • Colin Kaepernick: not a thing. Seems the Monarch Of Moral Outrage didn't vote last week.

    Fraud.

    • Umpiring configuration at the World Series: not a thing. It's like Trump picked them. Seven white guys. Nice way to reflect the overall demographic of the majors.

    • Reunion day at New London High? A thing. Dr. I hears rumors that Jordan Reed, Rajai Davis and Kris Dunn might all be around on Thanksgiving. That would be a major thing.

Even if they're not, New London-NFA is a must watch. (Birdseye first though).

    • Referring to oneself in the third person: not a thing. It would be like Dr. I going, "I like Mike," said Mike.

    • "Color Rush" uniforms on Thursday night football (where teams wear the same color jerseys and pants): not a thing. Hideous. The Broncos wore all orange a few weeks ago and looked like Syracuse just vomited on them.

Note: The Giants better not wear all blue for their Thursday game later this season. They've never worn all blue. Never. Not starting now. Dr. I says so.

    • Landon Collins: a thing. Dr. I hasn't seen a Giants player dominate on defense like this since Tuck or Umenyiora.

    • The mute button: a thing or not? Would you rather sit and listen in silence (announcers muted) or listen to the announcers and yell at them (because they're stupid)?

    Discuss.

    • Teachers of the Year: a thing. Congrats to all of you honored the other night at the Bushnell. All of Dr. I Nation appreciates what you do.

And while Dr. I thinks of it: Veterans need more than one day of appreciation, too.

    • Politics: not a thing.

    Sports: a thing.

Here's why: In sports, the scoreboard tells us what we need to know. You score more points, you win.

In politics, you get more votes ... you lose.

Because of this Electoral College thing, which, you know, doesn't appear to be the brightest light in the harbor anymore.

    • Christmas music now: Not a thing. Not fair to Thanksgiving.

    • Fast Eddy: a thing. Perhaps you've seen the commercials for Fast Eddy Gold & Diamond Exchange.

C'mon. Can you think of a better guy to buy your diamonds than somebody named Fast Eddy?

    • College basketball's return: a thing. Or at least it was until UConn lost to Wagner the other night and the gutty, gritty BC Eagles lost to Nicholls State.

    (Sigh).

    • Coast Guard-Merchant Marine on ESPN next year: a thing. Congrats to athletic director Tim Fitzpatrick and all the gang at Coast Guard for making it happen.

    • Edwin Encarnacion to Boston: not a thing. New York is way cooler.

    • East Lyme girls' soccer player Steph deLaforcade: a thing. Congrats to her on breaking the ECC scoring record this season.

This is the opinion of Day sports columnist Mike DiMauro.
