    Take a journey with 'Lizzy'

Actress Stephanie Jackson will bring her dramatic presentation, "They Called Me Lizzy … from Slavery to the White House," to the Ledyard Senior Center in Gales Ferry at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 22.

Jackson's one-woman show portrays Elizabeth Keckly, best known as dressmaker and confidante to Mary Todd Lincoln, wife of President Abraham Lincoln, and covers Keckly's rise from slavery to entrepreneurial freedom. Born into slavery in 1818, she eventually purchased her freedom and made her way to Washington, D.C., where her dressmaking and business skills brought her to the attention of many political families including the Lincolns.

The Senior Center is at 12 Van Tassell Drive, Gales Ferry. The program is free and open to the public.
