Malloy lukewarm about Connecticut border casino proposal

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Gov. Dannel P. Malloy says he's willing to learn more about a legislative proposal allowing up to three border casinos, but warns Connecticut shouldn't see the plan as a revenue generator.

The Democrat's lukewarm reception came Tuesday, the same day the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan tribe testified in favor of a bill they claim is needed to combat competition from casinos in neighboring states and protect Connecticut jobs.

More than 100 workers from the tribes' Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos, joined by three of the top four Democratic legislative leaders, rallied outside the state Capitol in support of the legislation.

Rodney Butler, chairman of the Mashantucket Pequots, said the bill is a proactive way to protect the state's economy. The state currently receives 25 percent of the tribes' slot machine revenues.
