Keno resurrected as Connecticut considers more casinos

HARTFORD — Allowing Connecticut's tribes to open satellite casinos isn't the only gambling proposal up for debate this session.

There's also a bill that would allow the Connecticut Lottery Corporation to offer the gambling game keno, most likely at bars and restaurants across the state. A legislature's Finance Committee is planning a public hearing on the legislation next week.

Rep. Jeffrey Berger, the committee's co-chairman, said Wednesday that if the General Assembly allows at least one additional tribal casino to help blunt competition from other states, then the lottery should also be allowed to diversify its offerings.

The bill would provide each tribe up to 12.5 percent of keno revenue.

Last year, the legislature repealed a law allowing the lottery to offer keno after many lawmakers voiced regret with the original decision.
