Gunfire erupts outside mayoral candidate's campaign office

Bridgeport — A Connecticut mayoral candidate who has made reducing violence a theme of his run for office says he does not think gunfire outside one of his offices was targeting his campaign.

Tom Coble, who was staffing Bridgeport mayoral candidate Joseph Ganim's campaign office Thursday, tells the Connecticut Post he heard 10 to 15 shots.

There were no injuries, but the rear window of a campaign worker's car was shot out. There was also evidence that bullets had struck the building.

Ganim was not at the office but visited later and described the gunfire as "random bullets" between groups of youths.

Police spokesman Kevin Coughlin said an officer patrolling the area heard the shots and responded to the scene. Witnesses said the shots were fired from a vehicle.
