Rhode Island House to reopen hearings into 38 Studios

Providence, R.I. — A House committee is reopening hearings into Rhode Island's $75 million 38 Studios debacle, following the release of nearly 40,000 pages of court records.

The House Oversight Committee meets Tuesday to discuss the deal with the video game company started by former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling.

Members are expected to be briefed on an updated timeline for the events leading up to the legislature's passage in 2010 of the loan guarantee program used to get 38 Studios its money.

Court documents show the deal was in the works months before originally acknowledged. The company went bankrupt in 2012.

A lawsuit is pending against Schilling and others involved in the deal.

The oversight committee held 10 hearings on 38 Studios in 2013 and 2014.

    More hearings could follow.
