Dairy farm recalls eggnog over concerns of salmonella

PROVIDENCE (AP) — The Rhode Island Department of Health says a dairy farm has begun recalling eggnog because it is concerned their containers may be contaminated with salmonella.

Arruda's Dairy Farm of Tiverton has begun a recall of its pint, quart and half-gallon clear containers of eggnog. WPRI-TV reports the impacted products have a sell by date of mid-February 2018, and were previously distributed through the Fall River area and eastern Rhode Island.

According to health officials, no illness has been reported in connection. Production has been halted as the farm is cooperating with RIDOH's investigation.

Officials say they detected the presence of salmonella while product sampling, a bacterium that can cause serious infections in young children or the elderly.
