PLYMOUTH, Mass. — Two beaches are set to reopen after a great white shark was spotted off the coast of Plymouth.

The Plymouth harbormaster told The Boston Globe that Plymouth Long Beach and White Horse Beach are scheduled to reopen at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Both beaches were evacuated Saturday afternoon after a local lobsterman saw the shark about a half-mile off Manomet Point. No injuries were reported.

Harbormaster boats searched for the shark Saturday evening but the fish was not located.

The boats were not out searching Sunday morning because of foggy weather but were expected to resume the search before the beaches reopen.

Great whites have become common off the coast of Massachusetts in recent summers, attracted by the seals, their favorite meal. Sightings often prompt beach closings.
