Norwich man arrested in Torrington home invasion, sex assault

TORRINGTON — A man who police said participated in a weekend home invasion during which a woman was sexually assaulted and robbed has been arrested.

Hillary D. Combs, 46, of Norwich was arrested in his home city Tuesday and charged with home invasion, first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, first-degree sexual assault and criminal attempt to commit first-degree sexual assault, they said. He was in custody early Wednesday on $350,000 bail and was scheduled to be arraigned later in the day in Superior Court in Bantam.

According to police, the attack happened Sunday. The victim reported that two men forced their way into the home, assaulted her and stole several items.

She was taken to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, treated for injuries and later released, they said.

Detectives investigated and quickly came up with two suspects, police said. The second suspect is incarcerated on unrelated charges.

Police said the crime wasn't random; the victim knew one of the men.

The investigation remains open, and additional arrests are expected, they said. Anyone who has information that may help investigators is asked to call Det. Kyle Johnson at 860-489-2038 or Sgt. Brett Johnson at 860-489-2051.
