Officials: Police clerk on leave over 911 call about murder

WATERBURY, Conn. — Waterbury police say an employee is on administrative leave pending an internal affairs investigation into her conduct during a 911 call involving a murder.

Authorities said Thursday that telecommunicator Nicole Scarino is on leave following an incident Tuesday. She's been a city employee for seven years.

WFSB-TV reports two people were ambushed Tuesday night while delivering food for a Chinese restaurant. Police say 61-year-old Rolando Alvarez was beaten and robbed and 59-year-old Helena Vargas was shot and killed.

In the 911 call, released to the TV station, the person talking to Alvarez has difficulty understanding him and asks for details of the attack. But his family says she was impatient and disrespectful.

    Police have made arrests.

They say the woman is a complaint clerk, not a 911 dispatcher.
