    1 dead, 8 taken to hospital after Connecticut highway crash

    NORTH HAVEN — State police say one person was killed and eight people were taken to a hospital with minor injuries after a three-vehicle crash on a Connecticut highway.

    State troopers and paramedics responded to the accident on Interstate 91 northbound in North Haven shortly after 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

    Authorities say one of the vehicles was engulfed in flames when emergency responders arrived.

    State police say 34-year-old Benjamin Morant Jr. of New Haven died in the wreck. He was the only person in his car. Three people in a pickup truck and five people in a SUV were taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital with minor injuries.

    The cause of the crash is under investigation.
