‘Mad Men’ podcast: The beginning of the end

“Mad Men” is a series that often reflects on endings and beginnings. Where did Dick Whitman end and Don Draper really begin? Don is accused of only liking “the beginnings” of things, but he’s got some unfinished business back on the East Coast. Will he continue to pursue new beginnings or will he finally own the life he created for himself? Meanwhile, Peggy, Joan, Roger, Pete and the rest of the Mad-iverse seem fairly settled where we last left them. What else can showrunner Matthew Weiner throw at them during the season finale on Sunday?

Which got us to thinking: what makes a good television series finale? Poetic justice? Music? A well-handled flash-forward sequence?

In our latest podcast — broadcast on Periscope for the first time today — we talk endings and beginnings and attempt to come up with some future scenarios for “Mad Men’s” colorful cast of characters as we go into the finale. The Day’s director of multimedia Peter Huoppi makes a guest appearance.

We’ll be watching the “Mad Men” finale live and tweeting (during commercials). Follow us at @edgecombday and @TheMDesk. We’ll be back in the studio on Monday to talk about whether “Mad Men” met a good end.
