UConn men land Seton Hall transfer Gibbs

UConn picked up its second commitment this spring from a graduate transfer when Sterling Gibbs, a recent graduate of Seton Hall, announced Saturday via Twitter that he would play his final season of eligibility with the Huskies.

"I commit to UConn today," Gibbs said on his Twitter account.

Last month, Cornell graduate Shonn Miller, a 6-foot-7 forward, also decided to use his fifth-year of eligibility to play at UConn.

Gibbs, a 6-2 guard who began his career at Texas, averaged 16.3 points at Seton Hall a year ago. He was also reportedly interested in North Carolina State, Ohio State and Pittsburgh. He visited UConn, Ohio State and Pittsburgh, finishing a two-day visit to Storrs on Thursday.

He will be a welcome addition to UConn backcourt that lost leading scorer Ryan Boatright (graduation) and reserve Terrence Samuel (transfer). The Huskies do return Rodney Purvis and Sam Cassell Jr., along with incoming freshman Jalen Adams, one of the nation's top point guard recruits from Brewster Academy.

Miller, who averaged 16.7 points and 8.5 points at Cornell last season, and 6-9 Steve Enoch, a forward from Norwalk and St. Thomas More, are the other newcomers to the program. UConn still has a pair of scholarships available next season.
