UConn football team to play Boston College at Fenway Park on Nov. 18

Storrs — UConn announced Thursday that its football program will forego a 2017 home game against Boston College at Rentschler Field in East Hartford to play the Eagles at Fenway Park on Saturday, Nov. 18.

The Huskies will partner with the Fenway Sports Management Group to host the event at the home of baseball's Boston Red Sox and will receive a guaranteed payment of $1.125 million, the largest game guarantee in program history. BC will not receive a guarantee.

"I think this is a great opportunity for our team, to play a quality opponent, New England rival and in such a unique and famous setting," UConn coach Randy Edsall said in a statement released by the athletic department. "When (athletic director) David (Benedict) said that this was a possibility, I immediately thought about it being a once in a lifetime game day experience for our team, staff and fans."

The school receive 22,000 of the 39,000 allotted tickets while Boston College will have 7,000 for its fan base and the Fenway Group will distribute the final 10,000 seats.

UConn said ticket sales will be handled by the Fenway Group, but football season ticket holders, as well as students, will have first priority on purchase of the school allotment of tickets, with information to be made available in the near future.

"We expect this to be a first class experience for any of our fans that attend," Benedict said in the release. "We have access to the best and biggest allotment of tickets, parking and pre-game hospitality areas for this game and have plans to set up surrounding events for UConn fans, students and alumni in attendance and a Husky Fanfest event as well.

"It is sure to be a memorable day for UConn Football."

The Fenway Group announced that the ballpark will also host two other college football games this season — a matchup between Ivy League rivals Brown and Dartmouth on Friday, Nov. 10 (Brown will be the host) and a game between UMass and Maine the following day.

"Fenway Park is one of the great venues in all of sports," said Dartmouth athletic director Harry Sheehy. "This promises to be an unforgettable experience for the players, coaches, and alumni of Brown and Dartmouth. We are honored to continue our great rivalry with Brown University at Fenway Park."
