UConn basketball adds much-needed graduate transfer to roster

UConn is on its way toward rebuilding its depleted basketball roster with the addition of a graduate transfer.

According to several reports, 6-foot-1, 190-pound guard Antwoine Anderson, who played at Fordham the last three seasons, has decided to join the Huskies. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

Anderson started all 32 games for the 13-19 Rams, averaging 11.1 points, 3.2 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 1.7 steals. He scored in double figures in 18 games and reached a season-high of 20 points twice.

While Anderson doesn't shoot the ball particularly well, converting 41 percent from the field and only 34.4 percent from 3-point land last season, he delivered in the clutch, sinking game-winning shots against Saint Joseph's and VCU.

Anderson is a much-needed, veteran addition to the Huskies, who were down to just five returning scholarship players after the departure of frontcourt players Juwan Durham, Steven Enoch and Vance Jackson, who all elected to transfer. They also lost incoming guard Makai Ashton-Langford, who asked to be released from his commitment and ended up at Providence.

Anderson, from Rochester, N.Y., will provide depth in the backcourt where Jalen Adams, Christian Vital and Alterique Gilbert reside. Gilbert missed the majority of last season with a shoulder injury.

The Huskies have brought in four other graduate transfers in recent years: former Norwich Free Academy standout R.J. Evans, Lasan Kromah, Sterling Gibbs and Shonn Miller.

With four scholarships open, the UConn coaching staff will remain active this spring.
