Anderson officially joins UConn basketball program

Graduate transfer Antwoine Anderson is officially a member of the UConn basketball team.

UConn recently received Anderson's signed financial aid agreement. A 6-foot-1, 190-pound guard from Rochester, N.Y., Anderson will enroll in the fall and be eligible to play this upcoming season.

Anderson, who will graduate from Fordham on May 20, committed to UConn about two weeks ago.

"Antwoine is a great kid who will bring a load of experience to our program," said coach Kevin Ollie in a release. "He's multidimensional guard, and I really love his defensive approach — he wants to guard the ball 94 feet."

A three-year starter, Anderson averaged 11.1 points, 3.2 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 1.7 steals in 33.6 minutes per game last season. He converted 41.1 percent from the field, 34.4 percent from 3-point land and 69.4 percent from the foul line in 32 games for the Rams.

"I love the way he was able to facilitate at Fordham and score out of necessity," Ollie said. "Speed kills and that's another thing I love about him. He has speed on the offensive end and on the defensive end."

UConn has had success with graduate transfers in recent years. Four others have come through the program during Ollie's tenure.

Norwich Free Academy graduate R.J. Evans (Holy Cross) helped the Huskies to a 20-win season in 2012-13. Lasan Kromah (George Washington) played a valuable reserve role on the 2014 national championship team. Sterling Gibbs (Seton Hall) and Shonn Miller (Cornell) were starters on the UConn team that reached the second round of the NCAA tournament in 2016.
