UConn’s Stewart, Williams honored by ACC

UConn women's basketball junior forward Breanna Stewart was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, while teammate Gabby Williams was selected as the league's Freshman of the Week on Monday.

It is the second Player of the Week honor this season for Stewart. In a pair of victories for No. 2 UConn (8-1), Stewart matched her season-high with 25 points on 10 of 17 shooting against DePaul on Friday night at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport and followed that performance with a 22-point, five-block showing against UCLA on Sunday at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Stewart leads the Huskies with 18 points per game. A native of Syracuse, Stewart stands at No. 23 on UConn's all-time scoring list (1,436), moving past Tamika Williams, Chris Gedney and Peggy Walsh over the weekend.

Williams, meanwhile, posted a breakout game against No. 25 DePaul on Friday night, setting career highs in points (14), made field goals (6) and rebounds (7). She continued her strong stretch of play with a 12-point, seven-rebound effort Sunday against the Bruins.
