East Lyme residents approve budget

East Lyme — Residents approved a $67,145,328 budget for 2015-16 at a townwide referendum on Thursday.
The budget represents a 3.12 percent increase over the current spending plan.
Thursday's results came down to 548 votes in favor, and 196 opposed.
The tax rate is projected to increase by 0.68 mills, but the Board of Finance will set the tax rate at a special meeting to be held later.
The budget approved on Thursday comprises $16,694,937 for general government; $5,317,606 for debt service; $1,099,705 for capital; and $44,033,080 for the Board of Education.
