Waterford Girl Scout receives Gold Award
Emily Coderre of Waterford was presented with the Girl Scout Gold Award Feb. 6 during a ceremony at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center in Waterford.
First Selectman Dan Steward proclaimed Feb 6, Emily Coderre Day in Waterford and state Rep. Kathleen McCarty awarded Coderre with a proclamation from the State of Connecticut. The celebration included friends and family.
The Gold Award is the highest achievement in Girl Scouts. For her project, “Spread the Love,” Coderre collected enough peanut butter and jelly to make over 14,000 sandwiches. She began collecting donations April 2, National Peanut Butter & Jelly Day, and in fall gave the food to the Gemma E. Moran Food Center in New London.
Emily spent time with Girl Scouts in Waterford and New London creating awareness of food insecurity and teaching scouts how to conduct a food drive. Emily passed her Gold Award interview in November.
