    Local college roundup: Conn women edge Wesleyan in OT

    Middletown - Cassie Hunter scored with eight seconds left in overtime to lift Connecticut College past Wesleyan, 3-2, in Saturday's New England Small College Athletic Conference game women's hockey game.

    Hunter scored with 2 minutes, 11 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.

    Amelia Dineen scored, Leigh Getz had two assists and Kelsie Fralick had 26 saves for Conn (10-5-3, 5-3-2). Mackenzie McPike and Laura Mead scored for the Cardinals (6-9-1, 2-7-1).

    Men's hockey

    • Goalie Tom Conlin made 30 saves as Marc Toper broke a 1-1 tie in the second period as Conn College rolled to a 4-1 victory over Wesleyan in the NESCAC. JC Cangelosi, Jack Jones and Mike Martinez also scored for the Camels (7-7-2, 4-5-1).

    • Boston College's Ryan Fitzgerald recorded a hat trick as Boston College beat UConn 3-2 in Hockey East. Ryan Segalla and Joona Kunnas scored goals for the Huskies (7-11-5, 4-6-2) and goalie Rob Nichols stopped 37 shots.

    Men's indoor track

    • Coast Guard captured nine events during the Wesleyan Invitational in Middletown. Ben Hannon won the 400-meter race (51.87 seconds) while Andrew Scheffey won the 600 (1:25.26), Brett Foster the 800 (1:59.31), Andrew Ireland the 1,000 (2:39.18), Gilliam Hill the 3,000 (9:10.71), Nicholas Foster the 5,000 (15:33.23) and Matt Naveta the pole vault (13 feet, one-quarter inch). The Bears' 4x400 relay team of Jacob Hardiman, Park Suski, Ireland and Ben Chapman also won in 3:29.83 as did the distance medley team in 10:52.11.

    In addition, Coast Guard had seconds from Hannon (200), Joe Kelly (800), Jonathan Lash (mile), Andrew Brown (3,000), Joey O'Connell (5,000) and Denis Daly (pole vault), while Raeford Penny (400), Ryan Hub (800), Hardiman (1,000), Zachary Velasquez (mile), Kevin Petown (3,000), Caleb Teachout (5,000), Daly (triple jump) and Kacy Rex (pole vault) added thirds, Kelcey Smith (400), Zach Kearny (3,000) and Jacob Yallowitz (5,000) had fourths and Luke Rehfuss (400) had a fifth.

    • Also at Wesleyan, Conn College's 4x400 relay team of Alex McGuirk, Aidan Cort, Christian Whitaker and Andrew Paterson placed fourth.

    Women's indoor track

    • Coast Guard captured six events, including a sweep of of the pool vault, at the Wesleyan Invitational. Monet Masters won the pole vault (11-1) followed by Taylor Ballek and Amy Kimura while Ashlee Johnson won the 800 (2:28.73), Beth Gollin the mile (5:24.93), Jessica Mulroy the 5,000 (19:39.28) and Gabrielle Troise the shot put (39-4.5) Troise was also third in the weight throw. The Bears also won the distance medley relay in 13:18.46. In addition, Kyle Sutscheck was second in the weight throw, Alex Troise was third in the shot and fourth in the weight throw, Madison Ahler was third in the 400, Sarah Cummings was fourth in the 400 and Alexandra Cobb was fifth.

    • Also at Wesleyan, Conn's Mary Goulding placed second in the 60 dash (8.10 seconds) to qualifying for the New England Division III meet while Grace Sheeran was second in the 1,000 (3:16.59) and fourth in the mile, Michaela Nee (3,000), Marina Stuart (triple jump) and Olivia Vener (high jump) added third-place finishes and Amanda Jacobsen cleared 9-6¼ to tie a school record in the pole vault.

    Men's swimming

    • Conn College scored 951.5 points to place second in the Dartmouth Invitational, which was one by the host school with 1,221.5 points. Conn's George Tilneac won the 200-yard butterfly (1:54.67) while the 200 medley relay team of Sean Paquette, Drake Freiberg, Tilneac and Mike Fothergill placed second (1:35.23), Freiberg was third in the 200 breaststroke (2:09.38) and the 400 freestyle relay team of Mace Molina, Bo Martin, Thomas Edwards and A.J. Pite placed third (3:14.99). The Camels had three third-place finishes during the Friday night session - Fothergill in the 50 freestyle (21.57 seconds), the 200 freestyle relay team of Trebor Lawton, Nike Brosnihan, Patrick McGinnis and Fothergill (1:27.05) and the 400 medley relay team of Paquette, Freiberg, Loring Bowen and Tilneac (3:31.53).

    Women's swimming

    • Conn College placed fourth in the Dartmouth Invitational with 378, which was won by Division I Northeastern with 1,007 points. The Camels' 200-yard medley relay team of Sarah Nappo, Katie Edwards, Anna Peterson and Charlotte Nixon placed third (1:50.35), Sam Pierce finished fourth in the 100 freestyle (53.45) and Edwards was fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.26). On Friday night, Valerie Urban placed second in the 500 free (5:07.30) while the 200 free relay team of Urban, Nixon, Juliette Lee and Pierce was fourth (1:40.35).
