Mystic Rotary awards grants to five organizations
Mystic — The Rotary Club of Mystic has awarded a total of $8,800 in grants to five nonprofit organizations as part of its 2019 fall grant cycle. A total of 24 groups applied for funding.
The two major fundraising projects for the Mystic club are the Mystic Half-Marathon Race in which more than 2,000 runners participate each May and the Passport to Fine Dining book featuring local area restaurants offering a “buy one entrée and receive another free” offers.
The recipients are : The Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center for a hiking trail system improvement project; the Genna Fund of Connecticut Children’s Medical Center for development of 3-D in-vitro testing methods for pediatric brain tumors; Groton Community Meals to provide needed items to open a second site at West Side Middle School beginning in January; Madonna Place, Inc. to help fund multiple services for disadvantaged women and children; and Salt Marsh Opera Co. to assist with costs of “Kids Love Opera! 2020 production of “La Cenerentola”.
