Mashantuckets to celebrate Native American Heritage Month events Friday
Mashantucket — The Mashantucket Tribe will publicly celebrate two events Friday.
The tribe, owner of Foxwoods Resort Casino, will observe the start of Native American Heritage Month from noon to 1 p.m. in the casino’s Rainmaker Square. Scheduled speakers will include Scott Butera, Foxwoods president and chief executive officer; Rodney Butler, chairman of the tribal council; Fatima Dames, the council’s vice chairwoman; and state Rep. Ernest Hewett, D-New London.
Dancers and Native American craftsmen will participate.
Following the observance, the tribe will mark the tribal court’s relocation to the Mashantucket Public Safety Building with a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
