Police: New London resident hit car, drove wrong way down Jefferson Avenue
New London — A local resident is facing several charges after police said he struck a vehicle and then proceeded the wrong way down Jefferson Avenue while intoxicated Sunday.
Elber Mena, 27, of 2 Union St., Apt. 302, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, evading responsibility, failure to obey a traffic signal, driving the wrong way on a one-way street, driving without a license and interfering with an officer. Mena further was charged on a warrant with disorderly conduct and second-degree threatening.
Police said Mena struck a vehicle at the intersection of Colman Street and Jefferson Avenue about 7:39 p.m. before driving the wrong way down Jefferson, a one-way street.
Records show he was released from custody on a promise to appear in court. He's next due in New London Superior Court on Dec. 12.
