It turns out that Ledyard High School senior Alex Manwaring set a school record during Saturday's 38-7 football win over Bacon Academy.
Manwaring rushed for 317 yards, which was believed to be a record, although no official records exist. Tim Curtis ran for 301 yards against Stonington in 1976, according to former Ledyard coach Bill Mignault, who was involved with the program for more than 40 years.
Mignault could not find any other player who eclipsed 300 yards.
The state record book lists the top 22 players in state history, failing to go lower than Tristan Roberts of Ansonia, who ran for 359 yards in 2008.
