Magician/food competition host Justin Willman performs at Foxwoods Saturday

    Justin Willman (United Talent)

I let the management group handling the career of magician Justin Willman know that I'd write this enthusiastic blurb in advance of his performance Saturday in the Great Cedar Showroom at Foxwoods — but only if he got me a gig on next year's "Halloween Baking Wars" competition on the Food Network.

Willman, y'see, is one of those old school variety-show type of entertainers who branches widely beyond the talent that kick-starts the show biz career. In this case, yes, he's a magician, and his popular "Magic for Humans" series on Netfix is transfixing and fun.

But Willman has also hosted the aforementioned "Halloween Wars" as well as "Cupcake Wars" for the Food Network. And I'm convinced my 18-foot-tall cupcake sculpture — extraordinarily life-like in its depiction of the assassination of President Kennedy by a vampire Lee Harvey Oswald (up to and including a sheet-cake Dallas School Book Depository) — could take home the prize if I could only get on the show.

Therefore, please attend Willman's gig at Foxwoods. And I might re-emphasize he really IS a dextrous and entertaining sorcerer who can make cupcakes disappear before your eyes (and down my throat).

Justin Willman, 8 p.m. Saturday, Great Cedar Showroom, Foxwoods; $31-$37; www.foxwoods.com.
