    Nothing Absurd About It

This is in response to the letter to the editor by Vincent Cimino ["This Absurd Situation"] that appeared on Aug. 22 regarding Lisa MacDonald's participation in two public meetings. Ms. MacDonald attended a Police Commission meeting for the purpose of introducing herself as the newly elected president of the Clinton Beach Association (CBA) and to thank the police on behalf of the CBA for their service, as other presidents have done in the past. We take exception to Mr. Cimino's characterization of this act as "lobbying."

Mr. Cimino then states that Ms. MacDonald went to a Planning & Zoning Commission meeting where she "defiantly proceeded to vote on an application from a member of the beach association" and insinuated this was a violation of a recent advisory opinion she requested from the Board of Ethics Commission regarding her dual role as president of CBA and a Planning & Zoning commissioner.

Unfortunately, Mr. Cimino has failed to accurately portray the facts in his letter of opinion. While the application before Planning & Zoning on Aug. 13 is located on Shore Road, it is not located within the territorial limits of CBA.

We see nothing absurd about the situation. The president of the CBA attended a Police Commission meeting to thank our officers for their excellent service. She then participated on an application before Planning & Zoning that was not in CBA.

Marilyn Yacavone, ClerkCBA Board of Directors
