Kenny Werner and Benjamin Koppel play the Garde
By definition, musical improvisation implies an unplanned journey. Sometimes, as with Sun Ra, the sojourn ends up in a place called Headache Land.
No worries on that front Friday in the Oasis Room of the Garde Arts Center. Pianist Kenny Werner and multi-reed man Benjamin Koppel perform - and it will be a lovely thing to see and hear. While the duo's first three collaborative albums explored jazz from post-bop to modern chamber music, their latest, "Walden," is a moving and evocative set of poetic sketches inspired by the meditations of Henry David Thoreau.
