Ribald ‘Golden Girls’ reimagining plays the Garde Tuesday
When “The Golden Girls” was airing its episodes from 1985 to 1992, did anyone think it would still be a popular thing all these years later?
Young people are watching reruns, and the series has been reimagined as a ribald stage show.
That show is coming to the Garde Arts Center on Tuesday. It’s got “adult-themed comedy,” so audience members have to be at least 18 years old.
The plot setup, from writer Robert Leleux, goes like this:
Sophia has been arrested for heading up a drug ring for retirees.
Blanche and Rose have created a sex app for seniors.
Dorothy has a much-younger, sex-crazed love interest.
This is “The Golden Girls” like you’ve never seen them. Oh, and men in drag play the “Girls.”
“Golden Girls ... The Laughs Continue,” 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Garde Arts Center, 325 State St., New London; 18+ only; $44 to $79 plus fees; gardearts.org, (860) 444-7373.
