Tractor trailer crash on I-395 in Montville causes delays

Montville — A tractor trailer crash on Interstate 395 southbound in Montville caused traffic delays for hours Wednesday.

Police responded about 8:30 a.m. to a tractor trailer that was partially off the road and down an embankment between Exits 9 and 6, according to state police at the Troop E barracks in Montville.

The front of the truck had veered off down an embankment while the trailer remained on the road, police said.

The right lane remained closed as of about 1:45 p.m., police said.

Two additional accidents took place around 3 p.m., causing minor injuries, according to state police. The extent of the injuries was not immediately known. Multiple people were transported to Backus Hospital. A total of four cars were involved, two in each accident.

State police said that the earlier tractor trailer accident helped to create the conditions for additional accidents. The four cars involved in the later accidents were not all next to each other, but were all close by, and both accidents were a result of a rear-end collision.

The later accidents shut down the right lane of 395 southbound.
