Mike Birbiglia brings his comedy to Foxwoods

“Don’t Think Twice” was one of my favorite movies of 2016, an underappreciated and gently affecting comedy-drama. It’s about the members of an improv troupe who are a real team until a talent scout’s arrival sets off professional jealousies and egos. The main force behind the film, which co-starred Keegan-Michael Key, is Mike Birbiglia. He wrote, directed and starred in it.

Birbiglia has some impressive acting gigs beyond “Don’t Think Twice,” too. He has a recurring role in the TV series “Orange Is the New Black” as Danny Pearson, and he appeared in the movie “Trainwreck.”

Most notably, though, Birbiglia has developed a crackling stand-up career, and he’ll be performing Saturday at Foxwoods. (Birbiglia is almost a local guy, having grown up in Shrewsbury, Mass.)

This should be one to see, since he’s known for his masterful stage shows. Birbiglia melded stand-up and theater in his one-man show “Sleepwalk with Me,” which played off-Broadway in 2008 and was called “simply perfect” by a critic from none other than the New York Times.

Mike Birbiglia, 7 p.m. Saturday, Foxwoods’ Fox Theater; $38; 1-800-200-2882.
