Novelist Elizabeth George appears Wednesday in Sun Cabaret

    Elizabeth George (Michael Stadler)

I'm frankly surprised there's any crime left in England inasmuch as Detective Sergeant Barbara Havers and Detective Inspector Thomas Lynley have been diligently thwarting British evil for decades.

It should probably be pointed out, though, that Lynley and Havers are fictional characters from the creative fountain known as Elizabeth George.

With luck, then, Havers and Lynley will never run out of felonies because readers of this e'er bestselling series are addicted. Enter their latest adventure, "The Punishment She Deserves." Set in a medieval community around a beloved deacon's supposed suicide and cleverly involving recurring characters from across the Lynley/Haven titles, "The Punishment She Deserves" is already vaulting up bestselling charts.

It might be big fun, then, to see George when she discusses and signs "The Punishment She Deserves" Wednesday in the Mohegan Sun Cabaret.

Elizabeth George, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Mohegan Sun Cabaret; free, books available for purchase; (860) 536-3795.
