Rod Stewart performs at Mohegan Sun

Trying to follow Rod Stewart’s musical style over the years could give a fan whiplash.

He had some hard-driving rock kick with Faces (“Stay with Me,” “(I Know) I’m Losing You”).

In the mid-1970s, he settled down a bit and worked in some folksy influences, hitting the charts with “Maggie May” and “First Cut Is the Deepest." There was, of course, his brief, much-lamented disco phase (we’re looking at you, “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy?”!).

A good deal of his 1980s were devoted to middle-of-the-road fare like “Forever Young” and “Some Guys Have All the Luck.” In the early 2000s, he took his distinctively gravelly voice and turned it loose on standards (“What a Wonderful World,” “They Can’t Take That Away From Me”).

Whew. And that doesn’t even cover the half of it.

All this means that chances are the set list will be an eclectic bonanza when Stewart performs Saturday at Mohegan Sun Arena.

And Stewart says he has wrapped a new album titled “Blood Red Roses,” so maybe fans will hear a new song or two in concert. Which side of Rod will that album feature? We’ll see!

Rod Stewart, 8 p.m. Saturday, Mohegan Sun Arena; $99-$129; 1-800-745-3000.
