Justified or otherwise, we at The Day sometimes feel a bit of proprietary pride when it comes to certain things. Consider the excellent pop duo The Brazen Youth.

Way back in '15, when Old Lyme pals Nick Lussier and Charles Dahlke were 4 years old, they performed (excellently) on our "Live Lunch Break" concert series. Actually, they were in high school, but still ... We felt proud to have discovered them, only to realize they'd already released several recordings and achieved Top 100 Bands status on Reverb Nation.

Well, hell. The good news? They're still at it, they've fleshed out the sound with new member Micah Rubin, and the group is more committed and polished than ever. The better news? Their latest album, "Primitive Initiative," is out this week and it's very, very good. Seems like there's no pleasing element of pop music that Dahlke and Lussier, who took a year off from college to work on the record at Ashlawn Farm in Old Lyme, haven't assimilated into their magical songs.

Finally, even more good news: They'll perform a celebratory show at the farm Saturday. Also on the bill are Spendtime Palace. "Primitive Initiative" is already available on streaming services, and you can pick up your own private CD at the gig for $10.
