Music Matters kicks off 11th season Saturday at La Grua Center in Stonington
The La Grua Center continues their Music Matters series with "Brahms, Schumann & the Romantic Horn" on Saturday in Stonington.
The program features violinist Solomiya Ivakhiv, valved horn player William Purvis and pianist Mihae Lee (performing on the wonderful La Grua in-house 1922 Mason & Hamlin piano). It's an ideal trio to perform exquisite works such as Schumann's Horn trio prelude and his Fantasiestucke, Op. 23; Prokofiev's Violin sonata No. 1 in f, Op. 80; and Brahns' Horn trio in Eb, Op. 40.
These works reflect the warm and romantic possibilities of the French horn and, in the heart of winter, it should be a heartening event emblematic of the Music Matters commitment to variety and excellence.
Brahms, Schumann & the Romantic Horn, 5 p.m. Saturday, La Grua Center, 35 Water St., Stonington; $15, free 18 and under; (860) 535-2300.
