If you hear the sweet twang of an acoustic guitar Friday, it's probably the opening salvo of the Hygienic Hootenanny in what has become the traditional kick-off event for Hygienic Weekend and the Salon des Independants. This year, the Hoot takes place at 33 Golden Street.

The talent is abundant, but the sets are short, so get there promptly when the doors swing open at 7 p.m. The bill includes  Aaron Kane (7 p.m.), Charlie Reyburn (7:15 p.m.), Maggie's Guitar (7:30 p.m.), Dogbite Duo (7:45 p.m.), Woody (8 p.m.), Ebin-Rose Trio with Bobo on bass (8:15 p.m.), Anne Castellano (8:30 p.m.), The Rivergods Duo (8:45 p.m.), The Carolans (9 p.m.), Clayton Allen (9:15 p.m.), and an en mass finale at 9:30 p.m.
