Chelsea Players is finally back staging a production, after time off due to the pandemic.

The group, in collaboration with Norwich Arts Center, is presenting the comedy "Specs" this weekend and next at the NAC's Donald L. Oat Theater in Norwich.

The play is written by John Morrison, who also happens to be a native of Norwich.

Morrison is an actor who decided to write "Specs" when, realizing he and two theater buddies looked a bit alike, he wanted them to portray brothers in a play.

The story he devised: Three brothers are in debt to a bookie. They scheme to scare up enough dough both to pay that bookie and to leave themselves with a big financial cushion so they can live large. It's set in Philadelphia, with plenty of city-centric references and jokes. Morrison lived in Philly for 20 years before recently moving to Boston.

"Specs" is directed by Chelsea Players president Richard Weingart, who also portrays one of the brothers. His siblings are played by John Lamar and Jim Kenney. Also in the cast: Nicole Wilcox, Bob Harding, Ken Lamothe, Nancy Gatto, and Sean Flaherty.

“Specs,” Donald L. Oat Theater, Norwich Arts Center, 62 Broadway, Norwich; 7 p.m. Fri., Sat. and March 25, and 2 p.m. March 26; tickets: $15, $14 for seniors, miliary and students, $13 for NAC members; www.norwicharts.org, (860) 887-7289, k.lamothe37@gmail.com
