Construction starts on UConn nursing school wing
Storrs - Construction has started on a $14 million addition to the University of Connecticut's nursing school building. Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy joined UConn officials for a ceremonial groundbreaking this week for the 15,800-square-foot wing at Storrs Hall. The addition will be named Widmer Wing in honor of Carolyn Ladd Widmer, whose tenure as the nursing school's first dean ran from 1942 to 1967. Those who spoke at Wednesday's groundbreaking included her sons, Michael and Eric, who grew up on campus. The new wing will include a large classroom, clinical simulation rooms, exam rooms and a large study hall. The construction work also includes renovations to the roof, windows and floors in the 103-year-old Storrs Hall - one of the oldest buildings on campus.
