What are the major issues for your town? The major issue facing the town is continuing to provide the level of services and the quality of education that taxpayers have come to expect without increasing their tax burden.

In addition to the budget the Board of Education is going to have to deal with maintaining and adding to its technology platform, maintenance of the aging schools in the district and successfully addressing the apparent achievement gap between schools and segments of the student population.

What makes you the best candidate for this office? I think being the parent of 3 children currently in the Stonington School System provides me with a unique perspective. I have the business experience to objectively evaluate district operations and identify solutions. I have spent my entire professional career in the area of Finance which has provided me with a solid foundation to deal with the budget challenges that the Board of will face going forward. I am accustomed to dealing with having to find alternative funding sources to offset revenue shortfalls.

What was the last book you read, and what did you think of it? The last book I read was The Leadership Moment. It was captivating. There are nine fascinating, real life stories about individuals who faced incredible turning points and how they led their crew, company or country through the extraordinary events that followed. Although each narrative presents exceptionally difficult decisions each individual had to make, the lessons learned are easily adaptable to our everyday lives, whether you run a company, a family, a community group or your individual life.
