H.S. football roundup: Falcons get one step closer to playoffs
Montville - The Fitch High School football team kept pace in the state Class L playoff race Friday night with a 48-7 win over St. Bernard/Norwich Tech.
The Falcons (7-1) can clinch a playoff berth with wins over Bacon Academy (Thursday) and Ledyard (Thanksgiving).
Fitch led 34-0 after one period and 48-0 at halftime.
Kevin Manzanares scored two touchdowns for Fitch on a 50-yard run and after recovering a blocked punt in the end zone. Bobby Johnston also scored twice on runs of 8 and 33 yards.
Kasey Flint, John Moscol and Christian Charron also scored for Fitch.
Kevin Gazlay scored for St. Bernard/Norwich Tech (0-8).
In Friday's other game:
• Jeremiah Crowley ran for a game-high 143 yards and returned a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown, leading Montville to a 41-0 win over East Lyme.
The Indians (7-2) remained in the middle of the Class M playoff race. They must defeat St. Bernard/Norwich Tech on Thanksgiving Eve to have a chance to qualify.
Buddy Dewaine caught a 32-yard touchdown pass from Nick Clemons for Montville, while Clemons scored on runs of 10 and 32 yards.
