New London woman faces prostitution charge after hotel incident

Mashantucket – A New London woman faces a prostitution charge after an an early Friday morning altercation at the Two Trees Hotel with a Massachusetts man who allegedly had paid her for sex.

After the 2:40 a.m. incident, Ledyard police charged Uniqua Newton, 18, of 750 Colman St., New London, with prostitution and interfering with an officer, and Liyun Lin, 25, of Malden, Mass., with patronizing a prostitute.

Ledyard police responded early Friday to the hotel, at 240 Indiantown Road, after a report of a larceny from a room there. Police said a disagreement between Newton and Lin, both of whom allegedly had agreed on sex for money, led Newton to flee the room and Lin to contact hotel security. Police said that during the investigation, Newton provided false information.

Newton was held in lieu of a $500 bond and was scheduled to appear Friday in New London Superior Court. Lin was released on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court.

Ledyard police were assisted by Mashantucket Tribal Police and Foxwoods Resort Casino security.
