Story slam at Conn College

A good yarn: The Connecticut Storytelling Center sponsors a Campus Slammer Friday - one of a series of story slams happening on campuses around the state. The goal is to help develop storytellers and listeners on college campuses. It's being done with the support of the National Storytelling Network.

Break it down: People who want to get up and present a tale sign up, and names are chosen randomly. They get five minutes and spin their story around a suggested theme. A panel of judges decide who ranks among the best storytellers, based on content and performance.

The rest of the story: The Connecticut Storytelling Festival, held on the last weekend of April at Connecticut College in New London, hosts this Campus Slammer's finals.

Campus Slammer, 7:30 p.m. Friday, Coffee Grounds coffeehouse, Connecticut College, Mohegan Avenue, New London;
