    Mystic drawbridge closure update

The final anticipated 54-hour closure of the Mystic River Bascule Bridge has been reduced to two 12-hour weekday closures and starts at 6 a.m. Wednesday.

The bridge will be closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday for start-up, testing and balancing of the bridge as the $14.8 million construction project nears completion, according to a notice from the state Department of Transportation.

Concrete barriers and temporary traffic signals will be removed and minor roadway restoration will be completed on the bridge approach from Stonington. The DOT said pedestrian access to sidewalks across the bridge will be temporarily restricted at times during the work. Marine traffic will remain restricted until April 15.

Constructing contractors Cianbro Corporation of Bloomfield is expected to complete the project by May.
