    Police arrest 10 in Montville sobriety checkpoint

    Montville — Ten people were arrested and a handgun was seized during a sobriety checkpoint town police conducted on Thursday and early Friday.

    Three people were arrested for possession of less than 1 ounce of marijuana, five people were arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, one person was arrested for possession of less than 4 ounces of marijuana and one person was arrested for possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, according to police. Police seized one handgun and cited multiple drivers for motor vehicle violations.

    Members from the Southeastern Connecticut Regional Traffic Enforcement team from East Lyme, Groton, Ledyard and Norwich assisted. State Police Sgt. Jeffrey McDermott, the current resident trooper in Ledyard, also helped.
