Ledyard Public Safety Commission to hold special meeting August 27

Ledyard – The Public Safety Commission will hold a special meeting at 4 p.m. Tuesday, August 27, in the Town Hall Annex, with the agenda including a motion to endorse keeping the existing Ledyard Emergency Communications Center in service as the public safety answering point and dispatch provider for the town.

The meeting will take place one week after several residents and emergency services volunteers spoke up at the commission’s last meeting in favor of keeping the dispatch center in town. The town has been exploring possible regionalization options, leaving the LECC’s dispatchers uncertain of the future of their jobs.

The motion for the endorsement on the meeting agenda also says that “efforts should continue to seek a third town to join Ledyard and Preston's multi-town center for possible future expansion of the LECC into a regional center.”
