Police say New London man staged burglary

New London - A New London man was arrested Friday for allegedly staging a burglary and filing a false insurance claim, police said.

Police said the incident dates back to July 3, when police responded to a report of a burglary at 537 Bank St., Apt. 2. The resident, Omar Hill, and his roommate claimed they were victims of a burglary and reported a thief had stolen electronic items worth more than $5,000, police said.

During the investigation, police said they learned Hill filed an insurance claim for $7,800. Detectives interviewed Hill and said he confessed that the burglary was staged and he had forged fake bill of sale documents to file a fraudulent insurance claim.

Hill was charged with insurance fraud and falsely reporting an incident. Hill turned himself in on Thursday. Police said the investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are expected.
