Plainfield woman charged with misuse of 911 in New Year's Eve incident

Plainfield – A woman who said she called 911 so police would come to her home and shoot her was arrested New Year’s Eve and taken to The William W. Backus Hospital, Plainfield police said.

Susan Lee, 43, of 4 Academy St., had called 911 at about 6:10 p.m. and hung up before providing information to police. When police arrived, they found her outside the home intoxicated and yelling at her husband, police said.

Her hand was hidden behind her right hip as if she had a gun, police said, and she refused to show her hands when asked by police. Lee’s husband told police there were no guns in the house but that his wife may have a knife.

Police said they called for backup officers as Lee continued refusing to cooperate, but were later able to take her into custody by distracting her. She was found with a plastic gun in her waistband and admitted to calling 911 to provoke officers into shooting her, police said.

She was charged with interfering with an officer and misuse of the 911 system before begin taken to Backus.
