Old Saybrook — Police have charged a Deep River man with attempted murder in connection with the stabbing of a woman Friday morning who remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Andrew T. Craig Jr., 25, was charged with first-degree assault and attempted murder for allegedly stabbing an unidentified 23-year-old woman. Police had responded to a 6:37 a.m. 911 call from the Super 8 Motel at 37 Spencer Plains Road where the incident occurred, according to a statement from Old Saybrook Lt. Kevin R. Roche.

The woman suffered life-threatening injuries and remains at Yale New Haven Hospital.

Old Saybrook police detectives Friday evening served a search and seizure warrant at the motel. Detectives seized numerous pieces of evidence related to the attempted murder charge along with 178 bags of heroin and more than $2,600 in cash, Roche said.
